Photo Diary #15 // Ijen Volcano - Java, Indonesia

Saturday 1 December 2018

Recently I travelled to Java and climbed Mount Ijen, an active volcano that contains the worlds largest acidic lake.
It is renowned for it's 'Blue Flame', There are only 2 places in the world where you can see this and Ijen is one of them. The blue flame is caused by the burning sulphur. The sulphur is also mined by local workers, who work in the midst of the toxic gas.

It was a great experience trekking this mountain and my first volcano trek! It was a bit challenging at times and super cold at the top, but so worth it!
