When I was travelling around Vietnam, I absolutely fell in love with the Vietnamese cuisine. It has a definite Chinese flavour to the food which I love!
I knew I had to do a cooking class so I could take some of these amazing recipes back home with me.
When we were in Hội An I found this vegetarian restaurant called Minh Hien. It was the first place we ate at and we ended up eating there every day we where there!
They have a cooking class which they run every day. You start off in the morning cycling from the restaurant to a vegetable garden that has been there for a very long time! We walked around and our guide told us what vegetables where grown here.
Next you cycle to the local market and pick up some vegetables for the class and also you get to try a local specialty of sweet soup and a Vietnamese steamed 'pancake' in banana leaf.
Then you come back to the restaurant and start you cooking class. We had a menu of 6 dishes and got to choose between two items for the dessert. We cooked this menu:
- Vegetable Fried Spring Roll
- Cucumber Salad
- Eggplant in Banana Leaf
- Braised Tofu in Clay Pot
- Vegetable Soup
- Sweet Soup
It was really fun learning some new recipes. It took about an hour to cook all of this from scratch, using fresh locally sourced ingredients. All of this was vegan and he gave us that option at the beginning, The only ingredient non-vegan was honey.
The photo above was our final creation! You finish at lunchtime and you get to eat it all. This food was literally the yummiest food I had eaten in so long. Just writing this blog post is making me hungry!
The cooking class cost us 650.000VND each and it was SO worth it! They send you by email the recipes of everything you cooked so you will be able to re-create this at home. This was definitely one of the best things I did in Vietnam.
Hội An Special Noodles
Vegetable Fried Rice
Fresh Spring Roll
When you're down in Hội An you defiantly need to try this restaurant whether you're veggie or not. Very tasty and affordable food!
If you have any more questions about this cooking class or want to hear more of my recommendations about Hội An, comment down bellow or message me on my Instagram (@iamnicolajoan).
