The Thrill of Hanoi's Train Street | Vietnam Guide

Saturday, 7 April 2018

Hidden in the bustling streets of Hanoi is a train track that winds all the way through the middle of the local homes and shops. A massive train rattles through these small streets a few times a day, ferrying the people across the city of Hanoi.

It's a great experience to witness the huge train speed by, it's also a bit scary because you really need to stand up against the wall to be out of the way.

It's amazing how the locals live with this train rattling thru their front yard every day. We arrived around 1pm, Just in time to witness the train coming through. We entered the 'Train Street' from the main road close to the train station, You could see the station a few yards up the track.

This was a great spot because there was a train attendant there who told us which way the train would come from and we where able to hear the 'ding' of the warning bell and we saw them stopping the traffic. This was great for us to be ready for the train approaching, otherwise you would just have to be aware of the rumble or horn from the oncoming train.

We had read online that the train only came at 1 or 2 times a day around 3-7pm and if you miss the specific time, you've missed it. However we arrived between 12 & 1pm and managed to catch 2 trains speed by during our time there.

The location is easy to get to from the old quarter. You can easily get an Uber or Grab for very cheap, but we ended up walking because it is a great way to see the whole city as you go along.

It's a great experience seeing the trains go through these small streets and a fab spot for photos! If you have any more questions, please comment down below or contact me on any of my social media.
